Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.
According to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), students are expected to participate in PDHPE for between 1.5 and 2.5 hours per week in Kindergarten to Year 6.
PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.
Participating in sporting activities is an integral part of primary education at Tempe Public School. We continually aim to have students from Tempe Public School participate in the South Sydney Primary Schools Sports Association's (PSSA) zone activities.
Tempe Public School also runs annual swimming, cross country and athletics carnivals for students 8 years old and over. Successful students at these events progress to carnivals for the South Sydney District, then the Sydney East Region and finally the NSW State Carnival.
PSSA Sport
Each Friday TPS participates in the inter-school competitions. Selections for these teams are competitive and held at the beginning of the season.

Opportunities exist for all students from Kindergarten to Year 6 to be involved in our school swimming program. Children in Year 2 have the chance to be involved in the Dept of Sport and Recreation's Intensive Swimming Scheme for 2 weeks.
