NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.
During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.
You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.
Visit the department’s website for more information about religion and ethics.
Time is allocated each Tuesday afternoon for Special Religious Education (SRE/Scripture) and Special Education in Ethics (SEE/Ethics).
SRE/Scripture classes are taught by trained volunteers from local religious organisations, with supervision by school staff. Parents are given the option of their children attending these lessons.
We currently have scripture lessons in Protestant, Catholic and Greek Orthodox denominations. Follow links for the approved provider’s curriculum.

SEE/Ethics
Classes are taught by trained volunteers, with supervision by school staff. The philosophical ethics classes that make up the Primary Ethics curriculum are inquiry-based. Children use dialogue and discussion, learning how to think about ethical matters through the give-and-take of reasoned argument. We currently offer SEE/Ethics lessons to students in Years 3-6 however places are limited by volunteer availability. Follow the link for the approved provider’s curriculum.

Those students not attending Scripture or Ethics will participate in meaningful activities such as reading, private study or completing homework under the supervision of school staff.
You are invited to contact the school office at any time regarding your child's SRE/SEE placement.
